MISSION STATEMENT
The Eszterházy Károly College, a leading independent
multi-faculty four year higher educational institution in the Northern
Hungarian Region is a significant component of the college sector
of the Hungarian higher education system.
The College also functions as an intellectual, cultural, service
providing, and information centre fulfilling both national and regional
responsibilities. Supported by the higher educational legacy of
the city of Eger, the College is dedicated to serve as a site of
continuous educational efforts facilitating the realization of life
long learning objectives on the national and regional scale, as
well as responding to prevailing societal demands while preserving
and maintaining the diversity of the training profile. Furthermore,
the instructional, scholarly research, artistic, and information
providing activities of the College are geared at the continuous
enhancement and dissemination of the values of universal and Hungarian
culture.
The Eszterházy Károly College is dedicated to provide diverse and
high quality curricula in its post-secondary, university and college
level undergraduate programs, special post-graduate programs and
in post-graduate curricula aimed at in-service teachers along with
distance learning and adult education schemes. While we are proud
of our traditional educational programs, we are continuously expanding
our training profile with courses of identical rank and our dynamically
developing information technology infrastructure provides equal
access to information for all of our partners. We integrate the
intellectual and cultural resources of the region, continuously
develop our own human resources and we are fully committed to serve
and promote the social, economic, and scholarly life of the city
of Eger and the Northern Hungarian region while strengthening the
latter’s professional connections with Europe.
Our main building has been dedicated to higher educational purposes
for over 200 years. Our institution is fully integrated into this
Baroque town of historic significance, which serves not only as
an archdiocesan and regional centre, but as a major tourist attraction.
Eger located in the heart of a historic wine country connected to
a national park yielding a wine of domestic and international acclaim,
qualified as a Hungarian specialty or “hungaricum,” is also a town
of medicinal waters and therapeutic baths. We are dedicated to the
respect and preservation of our traditions and we are ready to meet
training and research demands posed by the dynamically developing
local tourism industry and wine culture.
Since we are aware that our objectives can only be realized in an
environment of constant competition we launched open educational
arrangements, continuously update our curricula, intensify our educational
organization efforts, persistently expand our training programs
aimed at both domestic and international students, and actively
participate in national research programs supported by continuous
research development efforts. The demands of our partners and client
feedback play a defining role in the operation of the College and
the incessant intensification of public accessibility and the strengthening
of institutional transparency contribute to greater operational
efficiency.
We are fully dedicated to the concept of institutional autonomy
and we are aware that our objectives can only be realized with the
observance and respect of the law and via a democratic process characterized
by the strengthening of the professional autonomy of organizational
units and an increasing level of student participation. We guarantee
academic freedom for our faculty members and researchers and offer
stable lifelong employment possibilities inspiring professional
renewal for all of our staff. In addition to ensuring a freedom
of learning and program selection for our students, respecting their
rights and protecting their interests, we strive to attain high
quality comfort levels in student accommodation by an efficient
resource and asset management and investment strategy. Our staff
and faculty, and students are equally committed to the fulfilment
of our goals, and we guarantee the realization of our objectives
with an all inclusive and continuously enhanced quality control
system. Also, as demonstrated by the functioning of the recently
established Social Council our domestic partners and those of representing
Europe are intensely involved in the operation of the College.
