THE FACULTY OF HUMANITIES

Degree programmes:

Hungarian Language and Literature (BA, MA):

Students graduating from this program possess professional level skills in Hungarian language studies, are familiar with the theoretical aspects of literary science and philology along with the history of Hungarian and world literature. They are familiar with and able to apply the methodology of literary and linguistic research and can offer sophisticated interpretation and instruction concerning works of literature.

History (BA, MA):

This program focusing on the great periods of history trains teachers – both on Bachelor and Master level – with professional level content knowledge of the milestones of the interrelated Hungarian and European history and with a capability of meeting the educational and societal demands concerning the history program.

Ethics and Social Studies (MA):

The programme trains teachers who will be able to deal with issues covered by the Ethics and Social Studies subject in secondary schools. By the end of the programme students will be familiar with the main topics and tendencies of psychology, culture anthropology, communication, social-psychology, sociology, political sciences, jurisprudence, economic sciences, ecology, religion studies, philosophy and ethics. They will have the skills necessary for transferring and forming the social norms and skills of secondary school students, helping them to develop the ability of civilised discussion, rightful behaviour and support them in shaping their own philosophy of life and ethical views.

English Language and Literature (BA):

The purpose of this program awarding Teacher of English Language and Literature degrees along with English Language degrees with an American Studies specialization enables students to maximize their English proficiency while becoming thoroughly familiar with the basic issues of American and British culture, history, civilization, literature and linguistics.

French Language and Literature (BA):

The purpose of this program is the training of critically thinking, demanding and creative teachers of French Language and Literature with maximized language proficiency, familiarity with the basic issues of French literature, linguistic studies and civilization.

German Language and Literature (BA):

This program equips its graduates with a content knowledge enabling them to successfully contribute to the instructional and educational tasks of their given school along with laying the foundation for continuative language education and scholarly research.

Music Education (BA):

The graduates of this program will be able to meet the content-based and practical demands of music education in a wide variety of public education institutions.

Graphic Arts and Visual Communication (BA):

In addition to the traditional objective of providing Graphic Arts teachers for the public schools this program is dedicated to the training of artist teachers capable of improving public school students' visual reception and communication skills. The Graphic Arts program will train teachers ready and capable to meet the Drawing and Graphic Arts requirements of public education.

Special in-service programs

Dance and Drama Pedagogy:

Graduates of this program will be able to incorporate tradition preservation methodologies in their given fields or other educational arrangements in addition to becoming thoroughly familiar with the basic aspects of Hungarian culture and of the culture of minorities.

Social Studies and Civics:

Participants in this program will be familiarized with the democratic procedures, participation mechanisms and civic skills indispensable to productive citizenship.

FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

Business economics (BA):

Graduates of this program providing practice-oriented content knowledge will be efficient contributors to the accounting, financial, marketing, and organizational activities of small and medium-size enterprises and financial institutions. Furthermore, students can take advantage of a specialized professional language examination option at the accredited on-site examination facility.

Communication (BA):

Graduates of this program will be highly prepared professionals to be employed in such fields as journalism, media management, advertising, and publishing, or can work as spokespersons or secretaries at different institutions.

Library-Informatics (BA, MA):

The purpose of this program is the training of professionals with a high-level content knowledge in traditional library science to be complemented by a thorough knowledge of modern informatics enabling them to operate and develop the latest informatics systems and equipment along with properly operating human-informatics implementations and equipment.

Cultural Manager (BA):

This program trains successful and efficient professionals contributing to the respective institutions and fields of public culture and facilitating and arranging various extracurricular educational processes relevant to different age groups in various social settings.

Pedagogy (BA):

In addition to the possession of a thorough content knowledge, graduates of this program earning a Bachelor's Degree will be highly informed in social sciences enabling them to apply their skills creatively in the fields of dormitory resident teaching, youth education, child protection, developmental pedagogy, study hall teaching and media pedagogy.

Social Pedagogy (BA):

Graduates of this program will be able to provide solutions or proper approaches to the interpersonal, educational and social problems of children and adolescents. Furthermore, these graduates will be equipped with special skills in facilitating the support and promoting the harmonious living of individuals, families or social groups concerned.

Economics (BA):

Graduates of this program will become teachers capable of instruction in the basic concepts and interrelations of economics and can become efficient contributors to the management of educational institutions and non-profit organizations.

Special in-service programs

Motion Picture and Media Culture:

This program will provide in-service teachers with adequate skills to critically evaluate the achievements of the ''monitor culture'' along with an awareness of the dangers and of the values of the achievements of the information age for school-age groups.

Family and Child protection:

This post-graduate program trains educational experts capable of successfully contributing to the family education and child protection requirements of educational institutions.

Health Promoter, Mental Hygienist:

This program trains experts capable of promoting healthy living and a healthy view of life based on their prevention and correction skills. Furthermore, graduates will be able to conduct individual or group counselling as well.

Academic and Career Guidance Counselling:

This program trains educational experts capable of fulfilling mental-hygiene based guidance and career counselling tasks of educational institutions in individual and group counselling settings.

Educational Administration:

Graduates of this program can function as educational administrators, directors and leaders of national public administration organizations, municipal governments, public authorities and educational institutions.

Accredited Post-Secondary Vocational Training Programs

Special Tourism Manager:

Graduates of this program will become creative, well-informed tourism experts with multi-lingual communication skills and an adequate public relations background enabling them to function as entrepreneurs and medium or senior level managers.

Institutional Communicator:

Graduates of this program will be able to perform successfully as spokespersons or communication experts of a given institution or organization.

Special Accounting Administrator:

This program trains individuals-under proper conceptual guidance at respective firms-- capable of applying legal statutes, collecting, maintaining and providing accounting information, performing organizational, regulatory, and analytical tasks and initiating problem solving actions surpassing one's original job description.

Informatics statistician and Economic planner:

This program will provide and train experts capable of applying the latest informatics-related knowledge in the modern economic planning process fulfilling accounting, statistical, and planning tasks along with the participation in the developmental aspects of informatics projects.

Media Informatics Expert:

This program will train experts employable at different types of businesses or as entrepreneurs related to various aspects of society, economy and culture. Based upon their substantial content knowledge, these individuals will be capable of compiling and operating databases taking advantage of the possibilities of multimedia applications along with the creation, maintenance and management of multimedia presentations, clips, products and services promoting an interactive knowledge acquisition process.

FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCES

Biology (BA):

The purpose of this program is the training of elementary school biology teachers possessing a high-level content knowledge and theoretical background capable of efficient instruction in biology and environmental knowledge in addition to independent research in their given field.

Mathematics (BA):

This program trains Mathematics teachers for the 10-16 age group in order to meet the quantity and quality-based teaching professional demands of the region. Our students are given both theoretical and practical foundations for the Mathematics teaching process.

Computer Science (BA):

This program trains highly qualified professionals concerning the theoretical and practical aspects of informatics and capable to perform informatics-related teaching tasks.

Chemistry (BA):

This program trains highly qualified professionals with a content-oriented perspective ready to promote Chemistry instruction in the public education institutions.

Environmental Protection (BA):

This program trains highly qualified professionals familiar with the problems of current environmental protection efforts and capable of fulfilling environmental protection instruction tasks.

Physics (BA):

This program will train highly qualified professionals well-versed in the demonstration, interpretation and instruction of the basic phenomena of this discipline.

Geography (BA):

This program will provide subject teachers with a college level content and methodology background capable of creatively applying the former in the public school setting.

Physical Education (BA):

This program trains professionals employable as P.E. teachers in Hungarian public education institutions along with fulfilling similar tasks in special and extracurricular training schemes.

Special in-service programs

Nature and Environmental Culture:

This post-graduate program trains environmental education professionals possessing adequate environmental awareness and sensitivity in addition to an adequate content knowledge enabling them to perform environmental instruction and administration duties.
